Raiders' loss could be SU's gain
SU football is awful, and not getting any better. Greg Robinson is dragging the university to a new low, and there doesn't appear to be an end in sight.
Today's news that the Oakland Raiders have fired coach Lane Kiffin from his job opens up the questions.
Athletic director Dr. Daryl Gross worked with Kiffin when the two were at the University of Southern California.
Syracuse.com blogger and ESPN Radio 1260 personality Brent Axe interviewed Gross last week, and Gross said Kiffin would be his top candidate IF there was a vacancy at Syracuse, because Robinson's days are numbered.
This would be a great move for Syracuse, who is trying to save face after the horrible Robinson years. Remember Paul Pasqualoni? And how everyone at SU wanted him fired, despite his success during the McNabb years? It happened, but things didn't get better with Robinson, and now the university has to make a bold change.
Kiffin's youth and recruiting experience is exactly what the Orange need. He has a straight line connection to major California schools, that could bring major players to Syracuse.
Gross could make a statement by removing Robinson as soon as possible, and bringing in Kiffin. It can't get any worse, and Syracuse fans would be more content with a subpar team for the next few years.
